Notable flops of the year - Raj Kapoor’s Prem Rog found great box office success but both Gopichand Jasoos and Vakil Babu in which he made his final appearances as lead actor bombed at the box office.1982 was also a big year for multi-starrer movies like Badle Ki Aag, Desh Premee, Dharam Kanta, Khud-Daar and Rajput. Salma Agha’s Nikaah and Mithun Chakraborty’s Disco Dancer also created history. Raj Kapoor returned to direction in top form with Prem Rog. Other notable top grossing releases - Big B was in top form with superhits like Namak Halal, Khud-Daar, Satte pe Satta and hits Shakti and Desh Premee.Bhanu Athaiya became the first Indian to win an Oscar and Rohini Hattangadi won a BAFTA for the movie. The NFDC co-produced Richard Attenborough epic Gandhi was the highest grossing movie in India with a stellar Indian cast and crew. Disco Dancer was among the top hits in India but its mega success overseas made it the first Indian movie to gross Rs 100 crore. The top movie at the box office - This was a year when all the top talent of Bollywood had hits but the one which stood out the most was Subhash Ghai’s return to form with the Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt mega starrer Vidhaata.
